The alternative RCM Awards

20th December 2013

Soon we’ll be celebrating the best and most inspiring side of UK midwifery at the 2014 annual RCM Awards, so to get in the mood, we thought we’d raise a toast to the lighter side of 2013.

The ‘atta girl! award
Winner: Sheila Kitzinger

For being a 84 year old woman who simulated an orgasm on stage at the RCM Student Conference in Telford in November

The ‘outside the box’ award for creativity
Winner: Rachel Giaccone

For crafting a range of maternity training props on a shoestring to use with midwives in Ethiopia. Read her blog about it here.

The Cake Expectations award
Winner: Vicki Falls

For this crowning achievement of a cake...

An honourable mention goes to Jo Young's placenta shaped cake, from the same competition:

(The RCM ran a cake competition on its Facebook page to celebrate International Day of the Midwife back in May - check out all the entries here.)

Congratulations to all the winners here, good luck to all the nominees shortlisted for the real RCM Awards 2014 and Happy Christmas from the RCM Communities team.

The awards ceremony and lunch will be held in London on 22 January. To book your tickets to be there, click here or call 020 7880 7555.
