NMC revision of Midwives rules and standards
In 2010, NMC carried out a ‘consultation on our proposals’ to revise the midwives rules. They have now launched a follow-up consultation on proposals for standards and guidance to support the rules, together with further proposals for the revision of the rules for records, inspection of premises and equipment and suspension from practice by a local supervising authority (LSA).
I have attached a short briefing to the consultation with highlighted issues and invite you to respond and contribute to the RCM response. There are many pertinent issues that affect the professional profile and role of supervision in midwives’ practice. It would be good to have a diverse view, how this may impact on midwives both professionally but also in employment.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council are consulting on standards and guidance to support the midwives rules.
